¿Os ha contado alguien la historia de Miguel,
que oye de noche un ruido detrás de la pared

Y se hunde entre las sombras, y su ropa se pierde,
y la luna le mira mientras sus padres duermen...
"La cocina de noche" es un clásico de 1970 en el que Maurice
Sendak evoca recuerdos de su niñez: el autor tenía 11 años
cuando, en la Feria de Nueva York, quedó maravillado delante
del escaparate de la pastelería Sunshine Bakers, cuyo lema
era "Nosotros horneamos para ti mientras tú duermes".
Años después, Sendak contaría que este libro fue una especie
de venganza: "Ahora soy lo bastante mayor para quedarme
despierto por la noche y saber qué pasa en la cocina de noche!"
