Mario payeras, empezó a viajar y a estudiar muy joven. Luego volvió a su país y vivió siete años en la selva. Allí Convivió con campesinos indígenas. Con ellos aprendio a cultivar la tierra, cazar y pescar.

Los duros años de trabajo le dañaron gravemente la columna vertebral. Cuando él se econtraba enfermo, varios niños le escribieron cartas y enviaron dibujos. Uno de ellos le expresó su amistad con un dibujo titulado La Calle de Colores. Días después, el pequeño recibió este cuento.
