If you ever wanted evidence of the underlying hypocrisy of the modern female vis-a-vis "what women supposedly want, value and cherish in a mate" this novel should evidence #1.The narrator cheats on her kind, supportive, kale -eating husband (yuck) and in fact come to despise his kindness and egalitarian attitude towards marriage and sexual mores. Narrator and all the other female narrators constantly choose truly awful men as sexual partners leaving behind a trail of used, cheated upon and destroyed good men. This novel should serve as portal into the depths of toxic female hubris and self-delusion , especially when it comes to the drivel they peddle about wanting kind and sensitive men as mates. The fact that Rachel Cusk is one of the writer's literary influences should come as no surprise. Remember it was the avowedly feminist Rachel Cusk that asked her lawyer husband to become a stay at home dad when her children were born (which the poor man did, like so many men, taking her words at face value) only to be kicked out of his house and divorced when she became bored and frustrated with being the sole breadwinner. But none of this would be mentioned , not even slightly in the glowing reviews declaring this author as a "brave new voice" talking about "flawed women" to the collective cheers of "you go girl".It's about time men see the indignant hectoring of modern women claiming " all they want is kind and sensitive men as partners " for the sanctimonious baloney that it is. This book is "toxic femininity personified".
