A jeweler with an established reputation through the world, Louis Comfort Tiffany spearheaded the Art Nouveau movement in the United States. At a time and in a country in perpetual growth, Tiffany succeeded in elevating the decorative to the rank of fine art. Tiffany s workshops specialized in glass, where they developed groundbreaking techniques that resulted in beautiful effects. Following the examples of Gallé or Daum, Tiffany made the most of colours, opaqueness and transparency. However, Tiffany s greatest success was in his mosaic glass lamps, similar to the stained-glass windows of cathedrals.
