Probablemente, la mejor obra del dios de los manga. Black Jack es un habilísimo cirujano que actúa fuera de la legalidad porque odia el papeleo y las jerarquías, y que, aunque cobra cifras astronómicas por curar a sus pacientes más acaudalados, también suele ayudar a los pacientes pobres gratis. El autor hace un alegato sob re el valor de la propia vida, y el modo en que la atención médica raramente es prestada en igualdad de condiciones a todos los seres humanos.
